The President Ilham Aliyev, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Shusha Mosque to review the ongoing construction work.

On March 27, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Yeni Shusha Mosque to review the ongoing construction work.

It is worth noting that the foundation of this mosque was laid by the President in 2021. The mosque will serve as a modern architectural landmark in the historic city of Shusha. Its architectural design carries symbolic meaning. At the direction of President Ilham Aliyev, the mosque's shape will reflect the number 8, symbolizing the liberation of Shusha from occupation on November 8 and marking the Victory Day.

The mosque will also feature two minarets, designed to represent the number 11, symbolizing the liberation of Shusha and the entire Karabakh region from occupation in the 11th month. The height of the minarets will reach 72 meters. The mosque, being constructed in the upper part of Shusha, will also be the highest point in the city.

The design of the mosque was developed jointly by Azerbaijani and Italian architects. The exterior of this place of worship will be adorned with geometric patterns, similar to those found on the minarets of Shusha’s ancient mosques.

Currently, work on reinforced concrete, metal structures, and electrical systems is ongoing at the site.
